Visual Effects or Animation entries for the 2027 AACTA Awards are open.

AACTA Award for Best Visual Effects or Animation

Entries Open: Monday 6th July, 2026

Entries Close: Monday 28th September 2026

In the case of a short film, the production must have been must have been completed between 19th July 2026 to 18th July 2026.

In the case of a documentary, the production must have been completed between 30th August 2026 to 29th August 2026)

In the case of a feature film, the production must have been released in Australia (via one of the approved strategies in the 2027 AACTA Awards Rule Book) for the first time between between 1st January 2026 to 31st December 2026. 

In the case of a television production, the first episode must have been broadcast in Australia for the first time between 1st January 2026 to 31st December 2026. 

To ensure the most comprehensive and inclusive field, AACTA reserves the right to extend the eligibility period. AACTA members will be notified of any changes.

If the production has been submitted for another award category (e.g. Feature Film or Television), and meets that categories membership requirement, then no additional memberships are needed.

If just the VFX elements are being submitted to the AACTA Awards and there is no corresponding production entry, a minimum of two candidates on the entry must be AACTA Professional members.
