Holding their first Australian events of this kind, acclaimed Indian actors Shabana Azmi and Anupam Kher will share personal anecdotes and memorable moments from their esteemed careers during this two-session event, with AACTA Indian Cinema Advisor and filmmaker Anupam Sharma.

The 45-minute intimate In Conversation-style events give film fans and industry alike the opportunity to hear first-hand from two of the most celebrated and admired Indian actors.

Please note, there will be a 15 minute interval between the two sessions.


Shabana Azmi is an internationally renowned Indian film actress who has more than 140 films to her credit. With a career spanning over 40 years, Shabana has received multiple accolades, including a record of five National Film Awards for Best Actress, five Filmfare Awards and the fourth highest civilian honour from the Government of India, the Padma Shri.

Widely regarded as one of the finest actresses in India, Shabana's notable film credits include ANKUR (1974), SUSMAN (1986), ANTAMAAD (1992), ARTH (1982), PAAR (1984); GENESIS (1986), MADAME SOUSATZKA (1988), CITY OF JOY (1992), FIRE (1996), GODMOTHER (1999), MIDNIGHT’S CHILDREN (2012) and NEERJA (2016).


Anupam Kher is one of India's most acclaimed and admired actors, appearing in over 500 films during his impressive and ongoing 35-year career. He has received a record eight Filmfare Awards, winning the Award for Best Performance in a Comedic Role five times. The Government of India has also honoured him with the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan Awards in 2004 and 2016 respectively for his contribution to the field of cinema and arts.

His notable film credits include KARMA (1986), LAMHE (1991), DILWALE DULHANIYA LE JAYENGE (1995), MAINE GANDHI KO NAHI MARA (2005), KHOSLA KA GHOSLA (2006), A WEDNESDAY (2008), SPECIAL 26 (2013), and BABY (2015), as well as  PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO (2015) and HAPPY NEW YEAR (2015) – two of the top 15 highest grossing Indian films of all time.

He is also known internationally for his roles in international films such as the Golden Globe and BAFTA nominated BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM (2002), the Oscar®, BAFTA and AACTA International Award-winning SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK (2013) and, most recently, the Emmy nominated series SENSE8 and independent rom-com THE BIG SICK.
