Queensland: Beautiful One day, Rolling the Next

Queensland continues to be a sought-after destination for film and series production. Recent releases such as Ron Howard’s THIRTEEN LIVES and TICKET TO PARADISE starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts have showcased the sunshine state’s winning combination of incentives, locations, crews and facilities to audiences around the world. 

To find out what really makes Queensland tick, new Screen Queensland CEO Courtney Gibson sat down with Rosemary Blight (BLACK SNOW) and Schuyler Weiss (ELVIS) to discuss their productions with ScreenFest audiences.


Panel Discussion with the Creator and Producer of IRREVERENT

In order to stay alive, an American criminal is forced to hide out in a small Australian reef town in Far North Queensland, posing as the new church Reverend. 

AACTA brings together Tom Hoffie (Producer) and Paddy Macrae (Creator, Executive Producer, Showrunner, Writer) to talk with ScreenFest audiences about their highly anticipated series, IRREVERENT. In conversation with Screen Queensland's Head of Physical Production Gina Black, the pair will discuss what brought them together to collaborate, the benefits of filming in Queensland, financing the series, assembling local crew and cast and highlights from shooting on location in Mission Beach, Far North Queensland. The ten-part drama series was supported by Screen Queensland's Production Attraction Strategy and produced by Universal International Studios' Matchbox Pictures for streamers Peacock US and Netflix ANZ.


35mm Q&A screening of BREAKER MORANT (1980)

4:00 pm | Ritz Cinemas, Sydney

AACTA, in collaboration with the Ritz Cinemas, is proud to present a special screening of the classic Australian film BREAKER MORANT (1980), presented in original 35mm as part of AACTA ScreenFest.

After the screening there will be a Q&A with director Bruce Beresford, cinematographer Don McAlpine, and cast members Jack Thompson and Bryan Brown. All AACTA members are invited, and you’re welcome to bring a guest.

Music and Social Media, from Clips to Content

So you want to make it in the music business?  This panel will discuss how to make a music video that gets noticed, how to 'get discovered', right through to latest trends and getting your socials right to maintain your brand.  With experts from across the industry, this will literally hit the high notes as we unpack everything you need to know about the music biz.  Takeaways will be for all content creators and not just those in music genre. 


Inside the cutting room of ELVIS

6:30 pm | HOYTS, Entertainment Quarter, Sydney 

Multi Award-winning Australian editor Matt Villa takes ScreenFest audiences on a visual journey through his work on the biggest Australian film of the year – ELVIS.

In a world exclusive, Matt will deconstruct some of the most iconic scenes from the film on screen, and present a selection of never-before-seen rough cuts, dailies, and even some rejected scenes to show the evolution of the project, and to give audiences a greater understanding of how editing is used to create drama, emotion, action and empathy.
