The International Awards were a star-studded affair, with guests and Nominees attending including Mel Gibson, Nicole Kidman, Dev Patel, Luke Hemsworth, Kenneth Lonergan, Harvey Weinstein, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Joel Edgerton.

Ocean Park Standoff (featuring Samantha Ronson, Ethan Thompson and Pete Nappi) opened the Ceremony, which will be broadcast in Australia exclusively on Foxtel tomorrow night. Among those taking the stage at at The Avalon Hollywood were host Daniel MacPherson, and Presenters Isla Fisher, Ruby Rose, Julian McMahon, Alan Dale, Radha Mitchell, Damon Herriman, Luke Bracey and Simon Baker.

Four films were awarded across the seven categories – Best Film, Best Direction, Best Screenplay, Best Lead Actress, Best Lead Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor.

Musical LA LA LAND added another two Awards to its long list of accolades, receiving the Awards for Best Film and Best Lead Actress for Emma Stone, who is nominated for her role in the film at Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards and the SAG Awards later this month.

Mel Gibson stepped up his Oscars® campaign, receiving the Award for Best Direction for HACKSAW RIDGE. The win follows an incredible run at AACTA’s domestic Awards in Sydney last month, where the film received nine Awards, including Best Direction.

MANCHESTER BY THE SEA received two AACTA International Awards tonight, with director and writer Kenneth Lonergan receiving the Award for Best Screenplay, and Casey Affleck receiving the Award for Best Lead Actor.

The remaining two performance Awards went to Australian film LION. Dev Patel received the Award for Best Supporting Actor, while Australian actress Nicole Kidman received the Award for Best Supporting Actress. Their performances in the film have received critical acclaim, and see both nominated for Golden Globe and SAG Awards.

AFI | AACTA CEO Damian Trewhella said:

“From historical biopics and dramas to a tribute to the Golden Age of musical films, it’s wonderful to see such a dynamic mix of international and Australian achievement honoured tonight – and we’re delighted to see Australian’s Nicole Kidman and Mel Gibson honoured for Australian films LION and HACKSAW RIDGE. For the past six years, the voting patterns of the Australian Academy’s international chapter have often indicated those of the SAG Awards, Golden Globes, BAFTAs and the Oscars. I’d like to congratulate all winners and wish them every success throughout the awards season.”
