Short Film

Short Film entries for the 2020 AACTA Awards are now closed. If you are seeking to make a late entry to this category, please email awards@afi.org.au immediately to discuss this with our team.

Eligibility Requirements

In order to be eligible, a Short Fiction Film must be:

  • An Australian production.
  • Completed between 30 April 2019 and 20 July 2020.
  • A self-contained and continuous fiction film, recorded primarily in live action, of less than 40 minutes in duration in order to be eligible for entry in the Short Film Award Category.

Entering a short film work for the 2020 AACTA Awards also allows entrants to opt into the AFI | AACTA #SocialShorts short film competition which will take place online in early 2021. Those who enter a short film work for the 2020 AACTA Awards will be contacted about #SocialShorts closer to the time.

 

Membership & Entry

A Program, Film, Episode or Season which has been previously entered into the Awards is ineligible for entry into the current or any future Awards.

Late entries will not be accepted.

In order to be eligible to enter the Short Film category, a minimum of two Award candidates listed on the form must be current AACTA members. In the event that fewer than two Award candidates are listed on the form, then the sole Award candidate listed must be a current AACTA member.
