About Us
The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) is a not for profit organisation committed to recognising, encouraging, promoting and celebrating screen excellence in Australia.
Australia has produced some of the best screen performers, practitioners and productions in the world, and an important part of AACTA's role is to recognise this through Australia's highest screen accolades — the annual AACTA Awards.
AACTA also serves as Australia's most prestigious film and television member body, bringing together and representing the nation's leading screen professionals from a cross-section of the screen industry in order to further screen excellence in Australia.
AACTA aims to attract a diverse range of members, spanning various age groups, levels of experience and cultural backgrounds.
AACTA benefits Australia's screen industry and AACTA members as follows:
International Promotion — AACTA promotes Australia's performers, practitioners and productions, including through the AACTA Awards, Australia's stamp of success, creating new opportunities within Australia and abroad.
Galvanising the Industry — AACTA's 15 chapters represent and connect a cross-section of the industry including production across all screen crafts, distribution, exhibition and television networks.
Providing Leadership — Led by President Geoffrey Rush, AACTA is supported by some of Australia's most talented screen professionals on its Honorary Council, overseeing AACTA's chapters and providing leadership.
Consulting the Industry — Following the industry consultation which guided and supported the establishment of AACTA, further consultation is planned to identify industry trends and issues.
Facilitating Professional Development — AACTA partners with Guilds to provide professional development and networking opportunities; examples include forums with AACTA Award-nominated directors and writers.
AACTA was established in 2011 by the Australian Film Institute, which has been awarding screen excellence in Australia since 1958. The AFI continues its important remit of connecting the screen loving public with fantastic Australian content, and membership is open to anyone with an interest in Australian film and television.
